Gardner Breaks School Steals Record as Pomeroys End Season

CINCINNATI, Ohio –  The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's basketball team played their final game of the regular season on Saturday afternoon with an 80-62 road defeat to the Cougars of UC-Clermont.

The Pomeroys were led in scoring by Ja'Breena Gardner who finished the season breaking the SMWC single season steals record.  She ended Saturday's game with a game-high seven steals, concluding the season with 106.  The previous single season record for steals had been 94.  Gardner scored a team-high 16 points and tallied eight rebounds for the game.  Sierra Lopez was the only other Pomeroy to score in double figures as she chipped in 11 points and also had a game-high three blocks.  Chelsea Weaver was two points shy of a double-double scoring eight points and coming down with a team-high 10 rebounds in her final game.   

Leading the way for UC-Clermont was Ashley Keith who scored a game-high 21 points.  Stacie Lee and Meggie Malone also had 20 point performances for the Cougars.  

The loss marks an end to the 2013-14 season for the Pomeroys and the careers of seniors Chelsea Weaver, Hailee Rittinger, and Madeline Pea.  SMWC ends the season with an 8-16 record.
