Box Score 2 GREENVILLE, ILL. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College basketball team moved to 3-6 on the year after falling in two games at the Greenville Classic over the weekend.
GAME 1 (MacMurray 101, SMWC 100)
The Pomeroys fell in heartbreaking fashion during game one of the Greenville classic, as they were just barely edged out in overtime, 101-100.
The Pomeroys had three players score double figures, with junior Shelby Parmer leading the way. Parmer recorded her first double-double as a Pomeroy with a season-high 28 points and 10 steals. Junior Desiree Irizarry recorded 14 points, while senior Sierra Lopez recorded a season-high 13 points. Freshman Jordyn Lloyd led the team in rebounds with 10 and assists with six.
SMWC's game with MacMurray was tight throughout and eventually went into overtime. It was SMWC's first overtime game of the season, and they were outscored 9-7 in the final five minutes to fall 101-100.
SMWC shot 37 percent (32-of-87) from the field, 31 percent (9-of-29) from 3-point range and 47 percent (27-of-58) from the free throw line. In comparison, MacMurray shot 48 percent (39-of-82), 20 percent (2-of-10) and 60 percent (21-of-35)
GAME 2 (Greenville 103, SMWC 81)
After a long and draining game on Friday, the Pomeroys faced Greenville on Saturday and fell 103-81.
The Pomeroys had four players record double-figures with junior Grace Ziegler leading the way with 14 points. Fellow juniors Shelby Parmer and Desiree Irizarry each recorded 13 points, while freshman Jordyn Lloyd went for a season-high 10 points. Parmer led SMWC in steals and assists with six. Sophomore Mikayla Kinneer led the team in rebounding with six boards.
The Pomeroys shot 36 percent (31-of-86) from the field, 29 percent (9-of-31) from 3-point range and 53 percent (10-of-19) from the free throw line. In comparison, Greenville shot 60 percent (39-of-65), 57 percent (8-of-14) and 77 percent (17-of-22).
OTHER NOTES
Junior Shelby Parmer was named to the all-classic team after scoring 41 points, recording 16 steals 10 assists and grabbing 10 rebounds. She averaged 20.5 points, eight steals, five assists, and five rebounds per game.
