Box Score Key runs in the first and second half enabled the Pomeroy basketball team to pick up their third win of the season over Earlham College, 85-72, on Tuesday night.
Brittney Shaner led all scorers with 25 points, shooting 8-for-13 from the field and 3-of-4 from behind the arc. Kristina Bruce finished with a 13 point, six rebound outing and Brandi McDaniel secured a team-high seven rebounds and 10 points.
In a tight first half that saw four lead changes and five ties, the Pomeroys were able to use an 11-0 run in the last seven minutes and went into the locker room with a 39-27 advantage.
In the second half, the Quakers were able to cut the Pomeroy lead to three with 10:21 remaining. However, another critical 9-0 run for SMWC gave the Pomeroys a comfortable 12-point lead and never trailed.
For the game, SMWC shot 51.7% from the field and held Earlham scoreless from three-point range (0-11).
The Pomeroy's record improves to 3-9 on the season and will play their next game on Thursday, Dec. 20 in a rematch with IU-Southeast University. The Grenadiers won the first contest back on Nov. 16 (148-101). The game will be played at home at the Clinton Recreation Center in Clinton, Ind. Tip-off is schedule for 7 p.m.
