Head Men's Golf Coach | September 3, 2015 - Present
Abe Nasser joined the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics as the first-ever head men’s golf coach on Thursday, September 3, 2015.
In 2019, the team captured its second straight USCAA Men's Golf National Championship behind a remarkable team performance!
The Pomeroys earned a narrow two-stroke victory over SUNYDelhi to win back-to-back championships. The team had three USCAA All-American finishers and three USCAA National All-Academic. Colton Kuppler was named USCAA Individual National Champion with a score of 69 (-3). He was also named USCAA Men's Golf Student-Athlete of the Year, USCAA National All-Academic, and First Team USCAA All-American.
In 2018, Nasser led SMWC to its first USCAA National Title in program history and did so in a dominating fashion! The Woods shot its best 36-hole team score of the season as they finished Day 2 with a 569 (-2). Individually, Colton Kuppler finished as the
USCAA Individual National Champion Runner-Up with a two-day score of 138 (-6). The team had three USCAA All-Americans and three USCAA National All-Academic. Coach Nasser said, "This group of guys fought hard to win this tournament. Even with the lead heading into today, there was a great deal of pressure on them to hold it. They played with guts and determination. I was impressed by their maturity in the face of such a challenge.".
In 2017, SMWC placed third at the USCAA Nationals with a two-day total of 611. Colton Kuppler finished as the USCAA Individual National Champion with a two-day score of 145.
In 2016, Nasser signed five freshmen to the historic 2016 Inaugural team. The first being Jaret Morlan from Terre Haute North. Then, Blake Bennett from Northview joined on in November, as did Justin Wilson from Terre Haute South, to give the program three of a needed five to compete as a team. A month later, he signed Samuel Grimes from Northview and Braxton McIntyre from Terre Haute South to give the program its first five.
As a men's golf program, SMWC has had nine USCAA All-Americans and nine USCAA National All-Academic team members.
Professional Experience
Abe joined SMWC after having spent the past nine years leading the Terre Haute North High School girl’s golf team. He has also spent three years coaching the boy’s team at Terre Haute North. Nasser concluded his career with a record of 60-18 with the girl’s team and a 25-0 record with the boy’s team at Terre Haute North. He has guided the girl’s team to four victories in 18 hole invitationals, four sectional titles, and has sent two girls to state as individuals. He has also guided the boy’s team to state on one occasion.
Before Nasser became the head coach of the Terre Haute North girl’s team, the program had never earned a sectional title, they now have four. His teams have rewritten the record books with the school’s individual 9-hole, and 18- hole records being set under his watch. His teams have also set the school records for the lowest team scores for 9 and 18 holes. Nasser has helped three members of his girl’s team earn All-Conference honors and has led one player to IHSAA Academic All-State and All-State team honors.
Abe received both his B.S and M.S from Indiana State University.

Nasser currently resides in Terre Haute, Indiana, with his wife Emily and two children.
